Carpenters Puzzle
This is an example of using the rulers to expand a block. The patches surrounding the center (12 inch block) are the same size as the center. An aid to explain this is to understand that the flying geese in the center block is the same size as the flying geese in the surrounding area, so the same lines on the ruler is uses. Just use the same method for the square and half-square triangle and you can make the entire quilt or use this method to make borders that will match and line up properly with the blocks. These tools allow wonderful creativity for the quilter.
